The method developed by the group evolved through discussion and the presentation/critique of models of interdisciplinary engagement that could support the research activities of a disparate group of creative theorists and practitioners.
Key considerations in defining and refining the method were:
- Cognitive distance between the members’ disciplines;
- Identification and testing of appropriate discourses to reach an agreed and common approach to integrate knowledge and, potentially, cohere outputs from the different discipline groups represented;
- The potential for stakeholder partnerships;
- Research design and leadership.
As a result of much discussion, disagreement and the presentation of different theoretical and practical methods, the group coalesced around a conflict-driven, dialectical methodology.
